The National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut had its annual convention the first weekend of this month. The convention was a success; I think everyone had a good time. The national speaker was the president of the New York affiliate, Carl Jacobsen. He was very good, had a great sense of humor, and his keynote address was quite inspirational. We'll have to start coming up with good ideas for next year's convention. This one is going to be hard to top.
The holidays are coming so quickly. Unfortunately, no money is available to purchase gifts. It looks like everyone is going to get a hand-knitted article. What's wrong with not being so commercial; maybe we all should start thinking smaller in terms of material items, and larger in terms of spiritual things. Also, things like feeding the hungry, as cliche as that may sound, and making people feel good around the holidays rather than guilty for not spending a fortune.
I am knitting hats and slippers for gifts this year. They may look like nothing compared to a flat-screen plasma television, or whatever is in vogue right now, but I put a lot of effort and thought into everything I make.
Enough preaching for now.
